TikTok story highlights: what they are and how to view them
A TikTok highlight is a story the creator chose to keep: it is added to a named collection pinned to their profile, so it does not disappear after 24 hours. Highlights appear on the mobile app's profile screen; to view or save them in a browser without logging in, use a highlights viewer such as ViewTikStory's.
Stories vs highlights
| Story | Highlight | |
|---|---|---|
| How long it lasts | 24 hours | Until the creator removes it |
| Where it appears | The ring around the profile picture | Collections pinned on the profile |
| Can it be viewed later? | No, once expired | Yes |
A highlight is not a separate kind of post. It is an ordinary story, saved into a collection with a title and cover - the way you might pin favourite stories into an album.
Why you cannot find highlights on TikTok’s website
Highlights show on the TikTok mobile app’s profile screen. The desktop website does not display them, which is why many people do not know they exist and why most story viewers ignore them.
How to view TikTok highlights without logging in
- Open the TikTok highlights viewer.
- Enter the username.
- Each collection appears with its title, cover and number of stories. Open one to play its stories or save them as MP4, JPG or MP3.
Because you never sign in, no account of yours is attached to what you watch.
“This account has no highlights”
That usually means exactly what it says. Highlights are optional and most accounts never create one. The other possibilities: the account is private, or the username is slightly wrong.
Highlights are the way to see “old” stories
If you missed a story, the only chance of seeing it after 24 hours is if the creator pinned it as a highlight. Expired stories that were not pinned are gone for good - see how long TikTok stories last.
For creators: how to add a highlight
In the TikTok app, open one of your stories (or your story archive, if you have it turned on), tap the options for that story and choose to add it to a highlight, then name the collection. TikTok changes these menus from time to time, so the exact wording may differ in your version of the app.
